Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will branch out from the main group to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group access places they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.
