TikTok Provides Users Authority to Decrease AI-Generated Media in Timelines

TikTok is introducing a new feature that enables them to reduce the volume of artificial intelligence-produced content appearing in their streams. This initiative comes as the platform announced that it currently hosts in excess of 1 thousand million AI-generated clips.

Testing and Rollout

The new functionality is undergoing trials over the next few weeks before a widespread rollout. This advancement coincides with a rise in AI content, spurred by new video-generation tools.

AI Content on Other Platforms

It has been noted that almost 10% of the fastest-growing channels on another major platform only show AI-generated videos. A significant portion of this content is deemed low-quality AI content, a label for inferior, factory-style content that is frequently illogical or surreal.

Our research shows that numerous viewers appreciate content produced via AI tools, from computer-generated images to informative clips, and we aim to offer the community the ability to adjust the amount of that, according to their own preferences,” stated a company executive.

Scale of AI Content

The platform disclosed that there are presently over a billion videos on its service identified as artificially created. In total, more than 100 mn videos are submitted to the service each day, making AI content a minor portion of its overall inventory.

User Control Features

Viewers will be in a position to limit or boost the volume of AI-generated videos they view by accessing the content preference feature in the platform and selecting the AI content topic. Other topics that currently be modified under the filter include politics, style, cosmetics, and movement.

Content Labeling and Policies

The platform’s policies mandate creators to identify lifelike AI-generated content, and it forbids harmful fake videos of well-known individuals or crisis events. Any realistic artificial content that is not labeled can be deleted under its terms of service.

Furthermore, the app will from now on attach an artificially created watermark to content created with its proprietary AI systems, or flagged by an cross-platform project for identifying content made by AI. This action is aimed to help prevent users from attempting to bypass the tagging system.

Responsible AI Funding

The platform is furthermore launching a $2 million awareness program for specialists and groups to develop learning resources about ethical AI use. This project will assist charitable organizations specializing in training computer science.

Content Safety Approach

TikTok has justified its content review process, during debate over proposals to cut jobs for a large number of content moderators in Britain. The company is planning to reduce hundreds of positions in its trust and safety division in London, with trade unions and internet security professionals raising concerns that staff are being displaced by machine-led review.

A senior executive clarified that staff-based oversight would still have a role, but AI can protect employees by filtering out the most graphic content ahead of it gets reviewed by humans. The platform announced a 76% decrease in shocking and graphic content reviewed by safety staff over the last 12 months due to the use of its AI tools.

We believe it is crucial to combine humans and technology to ensure user safety,” the executive stated. “We’ll have humans as integral to the approach, but we also think it’s extremely critical to reduce exposure to unsafe media as swiftly, which is the area in which a lot of the machine support is making a difference process content quickly.”
